A smooth styrene sheet 0.7 mm thick in a 245 x 195 mm format, 2 pieces in the package. It is a basic modeling raw material - a surface from which you cut out any shape you want. Unlike textured sheets it has no relief, so you create all the texture, the rivets and the panel lines yourself as needed.

What the sheet is for

It is used to make missing or damaged parts, for plating and patches on hulls and fuselages, for bulkheads and interior walls, for the floors and ceilings of buildings in dioramas, for sheet metal covers, hatches and boarding, and also as a support and a template while gluing. A thickness of 0.7 mm is a good compromise: the sheet is stiff enough to hold its shape unsupported and can still be scored and snapped without a saw.

Tips for work

• The quickest way to divide it is to score it with a knife along a ruler to about half the thickness and snap the sheet over the edge of a table.
• Cut circles and arcs with a compass cutter, or score around the perimeter and finish with a file.
• Bond with liquid cement for polystyrene, which flows into the seam so that the joint knits together.
• Create the panel lines and rivets with a scriber and a riveting tool only once the part is cut out.
• Support longer unsupported areas from the inside with a profile or a rod, otherwise they will bow in time.
• Degrease the surface before painting and apply a primer.
