A kit of the German light tank in 1:100 scale. This is a smaller scale than is usually built for a display case, and it suits above all where several vehicles are needed on one surface, that is, for extensive dioramas and for the gaming table. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Although the designation refers to the Pz.Kpfw. I series, this is in fact an entirely new design which shares with the early light tanks of the same name only the name and its machine gun armament. The vehicle appeared at the start of the 1940s as a heavily armored machine for infantry support. Against the original light tank it was many times heavier, because it was given very thick frontal armor, which told on its mobility. Its most striking design feature is the running gear with interleaved wheels, that is, an arrangement in which the discs overlap one another and so spread the load over a wider track. This type of running gear appeared on German equipment mainly on the later and heavier machines, so on a small vehicle it looks unusual. It was built in only limited numbers and its use remained restricted.
In 1:100 scale the parts are very small, so work with tweezers over a surface and cut the sprue gates with a sharp knife. Finish and paint the running gear with its interleaved wheels before it goes under the fenders and plates; later you will not reach into the gaps. Choose a base shade somewhat lighter, as a small model darkens optically when viewed from a distance. Pick the shapes out with a dark wash into the recesses and with fine dry-brushing of the edges. Apply dust shades mainly to the lower part of the hull and between the wheels, because on this design that is where the dirt collected most.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
