This set from the manufacturer SX-Art brings self-adhesive stencils for spraying the color scheme on a model of the Airbus A321 airliner in 1:144 scale. The stencils determine the shape that is airbrushed, so the colored areas of the model are made of paint and not of applied decal film. These are not masks for the flight deck glazing.
The Airbus A321 is the longest member of the A320 family of narrow-body twin-engine airliners. Compared with the shorter versions it has a stretched fuselage, strengthened landing gear and modified wing high-lift devices, but otherwise it shares the same flight deck and overall design with the rest of the family. It is used mainly on densely loaded medium-haul routes.
In 1:144 scale the narrow fuselage of the A321 is narrow indeed, and the colored bands on it are often only a few tenths of a millimeter wide. This is where the main advantage of a ready-made stencil over taping shows: a cut shape is the same width along its whole length, whereas tape applied by hand curves imperceptibly on a rounded fuselage. You will make the work easier by spraying the darker or more saturated shade first and the light one over it — with thin lines it is easier to cover a narrow strip with a large area than the other way round. Press the film down with a fingernail over a soft pad rather than with a sharp tool, so that the thin bridges of the stencil are not deformed. Spray at low pressure and low flow; with shapes this fine, overspray immediately enlarges the edge. Remove it carefully and slowly, as thin strips of film like to tear.
