1:144 BAC Lightning II Vacu Canopy is a vacuum-formed clear cockpit canopy for a BAC Lightning model in 1:144 scale, an accessory to the F-Toys or Platz kit rather than the model itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
This variant of the vacuum-formed canopy is cut for a different Lightning kit than the sister set from the same maker; the particular model it belongs to is given in the product title. That matters with vacuum-formed canopies: the shape of the seating surface follows the particular fuselage, which is why manufacturers release several versions of a canopy for a single aircraft type. The accessory is made by Brengun of the Czech Republic. The kit is not included in the package.
The clear part is the one place on a model where the thickness of the material shows optically and not only in shape. Injected plastic has a wall in tenths of a millimeter, which in 1:144 scale corresponds to several centimeters of real glass, so plastic canopies read like a bunker viewport. Vacuum-formed film gets down to a fraction of that thickness and at the same time has a smoother surface, so it refracts less light.
Use scissors only for the rough outline; the fine finishing belongs to a scalpel drawn along a surface, or better still to abrasive paper. Never break the film, as it will crack in an unexpected place. Before you glue the part on, cover it with gloss varnish inside and out: that fills the microscopic traces of sanding and gives the glazing depth. For masking, use tape with low tack so that it does not pull off the sprayed frames when it is lifted.
The accessory set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
