A diorama accessory from the Czech maker Brengun. It is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft but a piece of trackwork that brings a dead-end track to a logical close. The end of a track tends to be the weak point of a diorama, because the track often simply vanishes at the edge of the base. A buffer stop solves the problem and gives the scene a believable boundary.
A buffer stop is a fixed barrier at the end of a dead-end track, meant to catch a vehicle that runs past the end of the track. Designs range from a simple steel structure bolted to the rails through timber-framed and concrete versions to a massive earth mound. They are found at the ends of sidings, in depots, by loading areas and on the dead-end tracks of stations. For dioramas they are rewarding precisely because they make it unmistakably clear where the track ends and why.
Seat the accessory exactly on the centerline of the rails, otherwise it will be obvious at first glance that it does not belong there, and sink its joint with the track into the ballast bed. Degrease and prime the whole part before painting. The steel structure is painted in a dark gray brought to life with patches of rust applied as dots rather than over whole areas. On concrete parts use a light gray broken up with an uneven wash and a hint of moss at the foot. Dust the lower part with a pigment in the shade of the ballast so that the accessory ties in with the surrounding trackwork.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and track are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
