A resin engine nacelle for a model of the Airbus A321 with the original engine fit, in 1:144 scale. The set replaces the plastic parts of the base kit and does not itself form a model of the aircraft. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box; the Airbus A321 carries two engines.
The designation ceo stands for the original engine generation of the A320 family and has been used ever since Airbus introduced the upgraded neo version. The CFM56-5B is the later and broader variant of the CFM56 series for this family: it was used across the types from the A318 to the A321, with the longest A321 requiring the highest thrust class because it has the greatest takeoff weight. The nacelle remains essentially circular, because the A321 has fairly tall landing gear and the ground clearance under the wing is sufficient. The engine hangs on a pylon set ahead of the leading edge, with the axis slightly drooped and toed. Compared with the neo version the cowling is noticeably narrower and shorter, which is the quickest way to tell the two generations apart on a model.
Wash the casting free of the mold release agent, cut off the casting block and level the surface. Check by dry-fitting that the nacelle will seat on the pylon of the base kit across its whole surface, and if need be adjust the mating surface, but do not change the angle of the engine. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; on a larger surface epoxy also suits. Paint the intake duct and the fan blades before assembly. On the A321, check the symmetry of both sides seen from the front as well, since the longer fuselage emphasizes any visual mismatch further. Apply metallic shades on the exhaust section and on the leading lip onto a smooth glossy base, as on a matte coat they look grainy. If you are building a particular machine, verify that it carried precisely this engine fit, as the A320 family was sold with two.
