Brengun 1:144 photo-etched seat belts for Japanese aircraft is a photo-etched set of seat belts for Japanese aircraft in 1:144 scale. It is an accessory for the cabin of a model you have already bought, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from the Czech maker Brengun holds seat belts etched from thin metal sheet. Belts are a detail that even a layman notices in an open cabin, and yet kits in this scale practically never hold them. The set is not a model in its own right; it completes the cabin of an aircraft already built.
An empty seat makes an unfinished impression in a cabin, because the eye misses a soft element that would break up the hard surfaces. Etched belts resolve that difference: they can be bowed, thrown over the edge of a seat or left to hang loose down its side, and the scene in the cabin at once looks as though the pilot has just stepped out of it. On Japanese aircraft the belts had a shape of buckle and an arrangement of straps of their own, which the set respects.
Belts need to look soft, and bare photo-etch cannot do that by itself, because it springs back. Annealing helps: warm the part briefly and carefully over a flame until it dulls slightly, and let it cool. The material then stays in the position you bend it into. Shape it over the rounded handle of tweezers or over a piece of wire, not over a sharp edge. Before painting, degrease the sheet and use a primer for metal, then paint the webbing matte and finish the buckles and the fittings with the tip of a brush in a metal shade. It is glued with super glue in a slight amount.
The set is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
