Armory 1:144 RAF heavy bomber crew in high altitude outfit, full set — figures of airmen of British bomber aviation of the Second World War in clothing for flights at high altitudes.
Responsibility details are not available.
This complete set of figures from the manufacturer Armory captures the crew of a British heavy bomber of the Second World War in high altitude outfit. The figures in 1:144 scale are intended to bring models of bombers and airfield dioramas to life — figures beside a machine give a scene scale and a story at once.
The crews of RAF heavy bombers such as the Lancaster or the Halifax flew long night operations over Europe at high altitudes. Unpressurized machines meant many hours in the freezing cold, so the airmen put on coveralls and jackets with a warm lining, hoods, gloves and high boots, and with that oxygen masks, life vests and parachute harnesses. It is precisely this characteristic silhouette that makes the figures a rewarding subject.
In 1:144 scale the figures are tiny, so work under a magnifier and with a thin brush. First give the figures a primer, apply the base shades of the outfit, bring the recesses out with a dark wash and liven the edges up with fine drybrushing. Wash the parts with detergent before work and carefully remove any casting marks.
The figures are supplied unpainted. The model of the aircraft is not included in the package.
