The CH-53 is a heavy transport helicopter of American design with a pair of turboshaft engines and a six-blade main rotor, with a cargo compartment and a rear ramp for loading vehicles and materiel. The CH-53G version was built for German army aviation, where it formed the backbone of heavy helicopter transport. The machines carried troops, equipment and slung loads, and they served for rescue tasks and for humanitarian deployments during floods and other disasters. During their long service they went through several upgrades, which concerned above all the cockpit equipment and protective features.
In 1:144 scale the parts are small, so separate them from the fret with nippers and clean the remains of the sprue gates up with a knife rather than by twisting. The glazing of the cockpit is better covered with masking tape and glued on at the very end. The fuselage takes a simple procedure: a base coat, a single-color dark scheme, a slight accenting of the panel lines with a thin wash and a matte varnish. Apply the decals onto a smooth gloss base, or matte edges will appear under them. Glue the rotor blades and antennas on at the very end, as they are fragile and easily broken off during handling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. With Model Set sets, basic paints, a brush and glue are part of the package.
