This item is not a vehicle kit nor a figure, but an accessory for dioramas and detailing in 1:16 scale. According to the name, the set from the Polish maker Aber contains fifteen pieces of a model of the German hand grenade of the 1924 pattern and it is made as a combination of metal and wooden parts. The wooden handle and the metal head match the construction of the real subject, so the result looks more convincing in its materials than a single plastic casting. The same set also exists in an all-metal release.
The Stielhandgranate 24 was the standard German hand grenade with a long wooden handle, used in the first half of the twentieth century. Its characteristic shape, that is, a cylindrical head on a long handle, came about for the sake of a longer throw; the grenades were commonly carried tucked into a belt or a boot and were transported in wooden crates. For modeling purposes it is an easily recognizable and frequently depicted piece of equipment.
Degrease the metal parts before painting and give them a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold. The wooden parts only need light sanding with very fine paper; they can be left in the natural shade of wood and merely emphasized with a glaze or a brown wash. In 1:16 scale the metal head is brought out well by a dark wash in the transitions and a restrained dry brush on the edges. It is a good idea to divide the set of fifteen pieces between the figures, an open crate and loose pieces lying in the terrain, so that the scene does not look uniform.
This is a modeling accessory, not a functional object nor a weapon. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package.
