It is an add-on set for a model of the Brabham BT18 formula car in 1:20 scale from the Japanese brand Ebbro, and it concerns the powerplant designated by the abbreviation SCA. On open-wheel formula cars of the mid-1960s the engine is visible almost in its entirety, because the bodywork covers only the front end and the tank. The execution of the powerplant therefore decides the overall impression of a finished model more than it does on a closed body. An accessory set of engine parts makes it possible to build the car with a different powerplant from the one in the base kit, or to replace its parts with better-detailed ones.
Paint the engine parts in subassemblies while they are still accessible from every side: the block, the heads, the intake tract and the exhaust headers separately. Metallic shades hold better over a smooth primer, so sand the mold parting lines down first. Suggest the difference between aluminum, magnesium and steel parts by shade, not by gloss alone. The exhaust headers can be brought to life with heat staining using thin glazes or pigments. You can add wiring and hoses with fine wire, following period photographs of the car you are building. Always try the set dry against the parts of the base kit before you start gluing.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
