1:24 Beduine

Bedouin 1:24 (MAiM)

A separate civilian figure in 1:24 scale. It is not a vehicle kit, but an accessory for a scene: the figure of a Bedouin, that is, a member of the nomadic population of the desert regions of the Middle East and North Africa, in traditional long dress with a head covering. The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Check the contents of the package once it arrives.

The subject

Bedouin dress is rewarding for a modeler precisely because of the way it differs from a uniform: loose flowing cloth predominates, forming long soft folds, and the coloring keeps to natural tones from white and unbleached cream through sand and ocher to brown. A civilian figure also gives a scene action — beside military equipment it creates a contrast that moves a diorama from a mere presentation of a model toward storytelling.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Cut off the gates and any supports, level the surfaces with a file and fine abrasive paper wet and with respiratory protection; glue resin and printed parts with super glue. Apply the base coat thinly, so that the engraving of the cloth stays readable. Never paint light clothing a pure white — start from a broken light tone, deepen the shadows of the folds with a glaze and pick the edges out with a lighter color. The lower hem of the robe and the footwear suit a light touch of dust with a dry brush or pigment, which optically joins the figure to the base. Build the face and the hands up in layers from a darker base toward the highlights.
