This large kit from Trumpeter captures the floatplane version of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb fighter in the large 1:24 scale. The extensive model combines injection-molded plastic parts with some metal and photo-etched parts and with film instrument panels, so it offers a richly detailed build.
The floatplane version of the Spitfire came about by converting the Mk.Vb airframe, which received floats instead of wheels. The machine had a four-blade propeller and an additional ventral fin for stability. Only a few were built and they were tested in the Mediterranean area, but they never saw combat.
The large scale allows detailed work on the cockpit interior and on the engine. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and the metal and photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. An airbrush, a good primer coat and gradual building up of the shades are recommended; sand the large float surfaces carefully.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
