The figures of wasteland dwellers are caught in a moment of interaction with one another, and it is exactly such a moment that gives a diorama the most valuable thing of all: a story the viewer finishes telling for themselves.
Where a lone figure only fills a scene out, a snapshot with a gesture can carry it. Set the figures in the context of a wreck, ruins or an improvised camp and let the surrounding props finish saying what has just happened. The 1:24 scale offers plenty of room for detail and at the same time meets the widespread scale of car models, so the vignette is easy to link with a car wreck as the basis of a base.
Clean the castings up, wash them and prime them. Post-apocalyptic clothing suits layered earthy tones, washed-out cloth and matte surfaces; contrast comes from dirt laid on with a wash and dust pigments on the boots and the hems of the clothing. Skin comes out well with layering in acrylics or with fine work in oil paints.
