A pair of wooden wine barrels in 1:24 scale from the manufacturer MAiM. The volume of 225 liters matches the classic barrique winemaking barrel of the kind you meet in cellars and wineries all over Europe. The props are supplied as unpainted castings to be cleaned up and painted.
Barrels are at home wherever a scene touches on the countryside and on a trade: a wine cellar, a pub yard, a load on the bed of a van, stores in a barn. Two pieces allow a composition, with the barrels side by side, stacked, or one stood upright as an improvised table. In historical as well as contemporary pictures with vehicles and figures in 1:24 scale they give a setting weight and credibility.
The basis is a warm brown tone, over which a dry brush brings out the texture of the staves. Deepen the gaps between the staves with a dark wash and set the metal hoops apart in a steel shade with a hint of rust. Conviction comes from a wine stain around the bung or the tap and a light dusting of pigment to suit the setting, since cellar barrels tend to be darker and damper, while barrels in a yard are bleached by the sun.
The props are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package.
