A self-adhesive masking set in kabuki paper for a kit of the AH-1G attack helicopter in its late production guise, 1:32 scale. The masks are pre-cut to the shape of the glazing frames, so trimming tape falls away and the paint edge is crisp. It is neither a model of the helicopter nor decals, but an aid for painting. The set is listed at the BASIC level — with this brand that is the lowest of the three extents; a fuller EXPERT level is also made for the same subject.
The AH-1G was the first production attack helicopter. It drew on the rotor and powerplant system of the UH-1, but it received an entirely new, markedly narrower fuselage with a tandem cockpit, where the gunner sits in front and the pilot behind and higher up. The narrow cross-section of the fuselage reduced the frontal area of the machine. Late production series differed from earlier ones in reworkings of the armament, the exhaust and details of the cockpit. In 1:32 scale the cockpit glazing is a large and clearly visible area, so the quality of the masking matters a great deal.
Clean and degrease the clear parts, stick the mask on and press the edges down with a toothpick. At a large scale masks are easy to work with, but every inaccuracy also shows on them, so apply them calmly and in good light. Spray in thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, lifted with the point of a scalpel and peeled away at a sharp angle. It pays to spray the interior shade first and only then the external color.
This is a masking set, not a model and not decals. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. The masks are cut to the shape of particular glazing, so check the match with your own kit beforehand.
