1:32 ALBATROS D. V ROTE BARON - DECALS FOR 3 MANFRED VON RICHTHOFEN AIRCRAFT

Old Propeller 1:32 Albatros D.V, decals for three aircraft of Manfred von Richthofen

A sheet of decals in 1:32 scale intended for building the German fighter biplane Albatros D.V. According to the name of the product it contains the markings of three machines that Manfred von Richthofen, nicknamed the Red Baron, flew. It is not a kit but an accessory to a model.

The real subject

The Albatros D.V was a single-seat fighter biplane introduced in 1917. It followed on from the older types of the D series and was characterized by an oval semi-monocoque fuselage of formed plywood shells, which differed markedly from the more angular structures of the time. The machine was powered by an inline water-cooled engine and the armament consisted of a pair of machine guns firing through the propeller arc. Manfred von Richthofen commanded a fighter unit and his aircraft carried a striking red finish, from which his nickname came. The personal markings differed from machine to machine both in the extent of the red area and in the additional markings.

Application tips

This sheet stands on small markings, not on large areas, and that is why the trimming is essential. Cut the film as close to the printing as you can, ideally with a new scalpel blade along a ruler: the less transparent edge is left, the less its glossy outline will show once it is dry. Small markings roll up easily, so carry them from the paper on a damp brush, not with tweezers. On fabric surfaces with raised ribs use a softener and let the decal pull in by itself; do not press on it with a cotton swab while it is soft.

Who the sheet is for

• Builders of First World War aircraft in 1:32 scale
• Modelers building the Albatros D.V
• Collectors who want a marking variant outside the sheets from the box
• A replacement for aged or damaged decals from a kit

These are decals, that is, an accessory to a kit. The kit, the paints and the softener are not included in the package.
