Glazing masks for the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 in 1:32 scale. They mask the frame of the hinged canopy and the fixed sections, and two national insignia stencils are enclosed.
Responsibility details are not available.
The canopy of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E did not slide back as on British and American fighters but hinged to the side. The pilot lifted it like a lid and could not move it in flight, so in an emergency exit he had to reckon on jettisoning the whole part. The shape consists of three sections: a fixed windscreen, a hinged center part and a fixed rear roof continuing to the armor plate behind the head.
The glazing of the Emil is divided by metal bars into an unusually large number of small panes, and their boundaries make for the most demanding piece of work on the whole model. The E-3 version still carries the rounded form with curved side windows. Pre-cut stencils cover each of the panes separately and are prepared for both faces of the molding, so that the bars appear rendered from inside the cockpit too.
The box holds two national insignia stencils, that is the main elements of the German markings, which are sprayed straight into the paint. This item has no decal sheet, so the supplementary inscriptions have to be planned from another source. The vinyl takes acrylic as well as solvent-based paints, holds by its own tack and is lifted with tweezers once the coat has flashed off.
The inner face comes first, then the outer one and finally the remaining areas are covered with an offcut. Only after that is the canopy glued to the fuselage, because once it is in place it can no longer be masked from the inside and paint would get into the cockpit.
