Aviattic 1:32 Fokker D.VII (OAW): a four-color lozenge for the tail surfaces with linen rib tapes. A decal sheet on a clear backing combining a subdued pattern with tapes in the natural tone of undyed linen.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Aviattic decal sheet carries a four-color lozenge pattern for the tail surfaces of the Fokker D.VII of licensed OAW production and fills it out with rib tapes in the tone of undyed natural linen. It is precisely this restrained combination that looks very authentic on a model, because the light tapes draw the structure of the ribs gently without overpowering the subdued camouflage pattern. The print on a clear backing captures the structure of the cloth and its final tone is set by the color of the base.
Printed lozenge fabric saved the German air service both weight and production time and became a typical mark of the machines of the end of the First World War. The Fokker D.VII, built from the spring of 1918 under license at Albatros and OAW as well, carried it over most of the airframe. The ribs and the seams of the covering were taped over, and alongside strips cut from lozenge fabric and dyed tapes, plain natural linen was also common, and it lightened further with time and weather.
Settle the segments with softener onto a glossy, uniformly light base and let them dry perfectly. Linen tapes come out well if, after clear coating the whole, you bring the texture out gently: a very thin brownish oil wash drawn in the direction of the cloth will give the covering depth. A matte or satin finish then joins the decal with the painted parts around it into one continuous surface.
This is a decal accessory, not a kit: the model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
