A detail set in etched metal from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended to improve the external parts of a model of the Curtiss P-40M fighter in 1:32 scale. The designation exterior says that the set concentrates on the outside of the airframe, that is on the details visible from the outside on a finished model. Photo-etched parts have a thickness that cannot be achieved in injection-molded plastic, so on a large model they look far more faithful. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for a model already purchased.
The Curtiss P-40 was a single-engine fighter with a liquid-cooled V12 engine and a prominent radiator under the front of the fuselage. The P-40M version belongs to the later forms of the family, it was powered by an Allison engine, and it can be told from the older versions by the arrangement of the cooling gills in the front fuselage. In service with the British Commonwealth, machines of this generation were designated Kittyhawk. The type was deployed as a fighter and as a ground attack aircraft.
Cut the photo-etched parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface; do not break them out. Make the bends over a bending tool or at least over the sharp edge of a razor blade, as the metal then does not ripple. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a small amount; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Degrease the metal parts before painting and coat them with a base color, otherwise the paint adheres poorly. On the plastic it is usually necessary to cut the original detail away first and smooth the surface down.
This is an accessory for a model, not a model of an aircraft. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. Check the exact extent of the set and its match with your kit before buying.
