A decal sheet for the Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 in 1:32 scale from the Czech manufacturer AML, marked as the second part of the series. According to the manufacturer the package also holds a set of resin wheels, so a single purchase gives you both the markings and a visible improvement of the landing gear. A large scale is demanding on decals and that is exactly where the quality of the printing shows.

The real subject

The Bf 109K-4 was the last mass-produced variant of the legendary German fighter. It was powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 605D inverted V12, which thanks to higher boost pressure and the option of an additional injection gave the machine very respectable performance at high altitude. The K model could be told by the taller landing gear fairing, the redesigned canopy and the wooden vertical tail.

Building and painting tips

Always apply decals over a gloss base, otherwise a matte shadow remains under them. Use a decal softener and lay the decal onto a damp surface so that it can still be moved. Wash the resin wheels before gluing and cut the casting block off so that the cut falls into the contact patch of the tire. Once the decals have dried, spray the model with a matte or semi-matte clear coat, which evens the surface out.
