Injection-molded plastic kit of the French prewar Dewoitine D.500 fighter in the generous 1:32 scale from the Ukrainian brand Dora Wings. It is a short-run mold supplemented with photo-etched parts, painting masks and quality Italian Cartograf decals with several color options, which is a welcome selling point. The large scale shows to advantage on the slender, bird-like lines of the machine.
The Dewoitine D.500 was a French all-metal monoplane fighter of the first half of the 1930s with an open cockpit and fixed (non-retracting) landing gear. It came about to meet a French Air Force requirement for a replacement for older biplanes and entered service in the mid-1930s. It was powered by a Hispano-Suiza V12 engine. A whole series of variants developed from the D.500; the most distinctive was the Dewoitine D.510 with a more powerful engine and a cannon firing through the propeller hub, which Dora Wings offers as a separate kit.
With short-run kits patience pays off: the parts have a finer character, so always dry-fit and align them before gluing. Assemble and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage, because it will be clearly visible in the open cockpit. Mask the glazing with the masks supplied. Separate the parts with a sharp knife, glue the plastic with liquid cement and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply primer before painting and spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats; the quality Cartograf decals show to advantage with their fine registration.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
