A more extensive mask set for the Hellcat that covers both main versions. Six masks for the national insignia and a two-part glazing mask.

Between the two main versions of the Grumman carrier fighter lie a year of development and a host of small differences. The later form was given a smoother cowling, a different arrangement of the exhausts, stronger racks for rockets and above all simpler glazing behind the pilot's head. That is precisely why a set with a higher number of marking masks covers both shapes at once and the modeler chooses according to which subject is being built.
In color the two versions part company. The older machines still carry the segmented three-tone scheme, whereas from the middle of 1944 the navy went over to a uniform gloss dark blue over the whole surface. On it there remained only one light item, the white star and bars, and with it the numbers and letters of the carrier air group. Six marking masks match the full range of positions on both wings and the sides of the fuselage.
With the all-blue finish masking is more demanding, because any overrun of paint shows on a dark surface. It is recommended to spray a thin coat of light gray under the star and only then the white. The film is pulled off at a slight angle, not straight up, so that it does not lift the finish.
One box will cover two builds. If you plan to build a pair of machines from different periods of the war, the marking masks will come out exactly for both; they just need to be laid out in advance against a drawing.
