HGW masking set – F.E.2b (1:32)

A set of HGW self-adhesive masks intended for a model of the British two-seat F.E.2b in 1:32 scale. It is neither a model nor a decal — these are pre-cut masks that are stuck onto the relevant parts, oversprayed with paint and peeled off once dry. The result is sharp edges with none of the thickness of a decal, and paint directly on the surface of the model.

The real subject

The F.E.2b (Royal Aircraft Factory) was a British two-seat aircraft of the First World War with a pusher propeller and the gunner in the front nacelle. It was used as a fighter as well as a night bomber and was among the types that helped end the superiority of the German Eindeckers.

Use

• Separate the film, stick it onto a clean and degreased surface and press the edges down firmly.
• Spray the paint in thin coats so that it does not creep under the mask.
• Once the paint has set, carefully peel the mask off and you get a sharp transition.
