The package gives two cockpit masks, one for the outside and one for the inside, two national insignia and a pair of metal muzzles for small-caliber machine guns. For a large model of the Focke-Wulf of 1943.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fw 190A-5 came about as a response to pilots' complaints about heat and exhaust fumes in the cockpit. The engine mounting was lengthened by about fifteen centimeters, which moved the BMW radial away from the cockpit and at the same time improved the balance, which had been getting worse with every piece of equipment added. Machines of this sub-version served on every front in 1943 and became the basis for a long line of factory modifications, from bomb carriers through torpedo variants to reinforced armament in the wing. Above the engine there still sat two fast-firing small-caliber machine guns, which only the later sub-versions exchanged for heavier weapons.
Two films for the cockpit glazing, two national insignia and two turned metal muzzles for the machine guns above the engine.
It is here that the metal version is valuable. The machine gun of this sub-version had a caliber of just under eight millimeters, which in 1:32 works out at a quarter of a millimeter, while the heavier weapon of the later machines comes to four tenths. The difference is slight in absolute figures and yet sixty percent in ratio, so a finished model gives away whether the builder used the right version. Injected plastic cannot hold such fine gradation; a turned part can.
A sprayed national marking has one advantage a decal cannot match: it is part of the finish, so it wears the same way, mattes the same way and has no transparent film under it whose edge would shine in a side light. The drawback is the need for exact registration, so always align the mask along one axis and level the other by measuring from a fixed point on the wing.
