A sheet set of water-slide decals in 1:32 scale from Print Scale. It serves to mark an already built and painted model of the Grumman TBF Avenger carrier torpedo bomber. It is not a model and not a kit but an accessory that lets a modeler build an aircraft in a form other than the one the decal sheet in a kit offers. The large 1:32 scale allows even small technical lettering and warning stencils to be printed, which are illegible in smaller scales.
The TBF Avenger was an American carrier torpedo bomber introduced during the Second World War. It was a sturdy single-engine aircraft with a crew of three, an internal bomb bay able to carry a torpedo or bombs and a dorsal gun turret. For its day it was markedly larger and heavier than the previous carrier types, and yet it managed operations from aircraft carriers thanks to its folding wings. Besides strike tasks against shipping it proved itself in the anti-submarine role as well, and it stayed in service long after the war. Alongside production at Grumman, a considerable part of the examples was built under license, where the aircraft carried a different manufacturer letter in the designation.
First overcoat the surface of the model with a gloss varnish, otherwise a white haze will form around a decal. Cut the motif out close to the edge of the printing, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until the film starts to slide on the backing paper. Slide it onto the moistened surface, set it in the right position and blot the water with a towel from the center toward the edges. On large motifs on the side of the fuselage work in sections and help yourself with a brush. A decal softener will help settle the printing over engraved lines and rivets. Once dry, even the surface out with a matte varnish. On large-area models in 1:32 it is advisable to have soft-jawed tweezers and plenty of water in a dish.
