1:32 Hawker Typhoon Mk Ib

Decals 1:32 Hawker Typhoon Mk Ib from Techmod

A set of waterslide decals in 1:32 scale for a model of the Hawker Typhoon Mk Ib fighter-bomber, part number 32021. The sheet covers several machines from 1942 and 1943 in the early form with car-type doors at the cockpit: most of them in the European gray-green camouflage scheme and one in a desert finish. The maker is the Polish brand Techmod. It is not a kit and not a finished model.

The real subject

The Typhoon was conceived as a high-altitude interceptor, but with the twenty-four-cylinder Napier Sabre engine it did not prove itself at great heights. It found its place low over the ground: first against the German fighters that attacked the British coast, later as the main strike machine of the tactical air force over Normandy. The armament was four 20 mm cannons, and bombs or unguided rockets could be hung under the wings. Early machines had a framed canopy with car-type doors; later ones were given a sliding bubble hood.

Application tips

A decal holds best on a smooth, glossy varnished surface; on a matte or roughened base a visible rim stays around the motif. Trim each motif as closely as possible, leave it 20 to 30 seconds in lukewarm water and then slide it from the paper onto a spot wetted with water. Press the air and the excess water out from the center toward the edges. On doubly curved surfaces and over engraved lines a decal setting solution helps. Overspray the finished markings with a protective varnish in the degree of gloss that the rest of the model has.

Who the set is for

• modelers who build the Typhoon in 1:32 scale
• those interested in British tactical aviation of 1942 to 1944
• builders of the early form with the door cockpit
• collectors of aircraft decals in large scale

It is an accessory for the model, not a kit. The base kit, paints and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
