Masking shapes for the glazing of the early version of the Hawker Hurricane in 1:32 scale. They include the canopy from the outer and the inner face and two national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The front section of the Hurricane's glazing was not merely an aerodynamic cover. In the middle it carried a thick laminated pane meant to stop a round arriving from the front, and thinner side panes continued around it. That pane is noticeably thicker than the glass around it, sits in a slightly different plane and forms a distinct step on the windscreen.
Just behind the windscreen, a short distance away, sat the reflector gunsight. The pilot looked through its glass and through the armored pane at the same time, so this small area decided whether he would hit anything at all. On a model it is the first place the eye falls from the front, and an imprecisely run mask edge cannot hide there. The set handles the windscreen and the sliding part of the canopy, and does so from both faces, so the frame around the thick pane gets paint on the inside too and the step between the panes stays legible.
A pair of shapes for the glass, that is for the outer and the inner face, and two national insignia motifs. The cut pieces are simply taken off and laid on.
The frame of the windscreen tends to be darker on the inside than its surroundings so as not to dazzle by reflection. It therefore pays to spray the inner face first, let it dry overnight and only then fit the outer shapes. The reverse procedure means you can reach the inner face only through camouflage that is already finished.
The side panes of the sliding section have narrow frames of their own that are easily skipped when working fast. In a large scale, though, they are clearly visible in profile.
