1:32 Hurricane Mk. IIc Trop mask set (Artillery models)

A self-adhesive mask set in the large 1:32 scale from the manufacturer Artillery models. It is neither a model nor a set of extra parts. These are pre-cut masks that are applied to the assembled model and protect the areas that are to stay free of sprayed paint. In a large scale the quality of the masking shows most of all, because every imprecise edge is immediately visible on the finished model.

Why masks instead of tape

The canopy frames of the Hurricane consist of straight and slightly curved strips that are very hard to cut out of tape. A pre-cut mask solves that problem in a matter of minutes. Once it is applied, press the edges down, spray the color of the inner side of the frames first and only then the camouflage on top. Lift the mask off before the paint cures completely, otherwise the edge may peel away. Do not polish the glazing with silicone products before applying the masks, as they reduce adhesion.

The real subject

The Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIc was a British single-engine fighter of mixed construction, with a tubular fuselage frame covered with fabric and a metal wing. The Mk. IIc version carried an armament of four 20 mm cannons. The suffix Trop denotes the tropical configuration with a bulky air intake filter under the nose, which allowed the aircraft to operate in dusty conditions. That filter markedly changes the silhouette of the nose compared with the standard form.
