Masking set for a large model of the twin-engine Mosquito in the night fighter and fighter-bomber versions. The broad roof is divided into two areas and three patterns for the circular insignia are added.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mosquito seated the pilot and the navigator tight beside one another, the navigator slightly back and a little to the side. The cockpit therefore needed a broad glazed roof and a flat bulletproof front, behind which the space opens out to the sides. In a large scale that means the largest area of glazing you will not meet on single-engine fighters, and with it the most work with paint.
An inner mask is no luxury here. Behind the glass sit two seats, an instrument panel extended to the right toward the navigator and side walls with wiring, and all of it shows through across the fuselage. If the frame were painted only from outside, every look from above would show where the spray had run over onto the inner face.
The night fighter had its instrument panel and cockpit interior laid out so that nothing would dazzle the crew in flight in the dark, whereas the fighter-bomber flew by day over France and over Norway. The difference between the two shows mainly in the nose and the armament; the shape of the glazing stays the same.
Broad panes bend easily when being glued. Apply the film before the part is fitted; it gives the acrylic temporary rigidity and protects it against fingerprints.
