An accessory for modelers who want the markings of their P-40N sprayed. The set holds self-adhesive masks, not plastic parts – a model of the aircraft has to be your own. The tie to one particular machine nicknamed Milk Wagon Express means that the result will be exactly this aircraft, including its individual appearance.
The P-40N Warhawk closes the development line of a single-engine fighter that reached the vast majority of Allied air forces. The N version arose as a response to the fact that the type was no longer a match for modern opponents at high altitudes: the designers therefore reached for a lightened airframe and a better view out of the cockpit. The result was a reliable and sturdy aircraft, which kept its place mainly as a fighter-bomber and in the ground support role. The liquid-cooled V12 engine with the characteristic radiator under the nose gave the whole type a silhouette that cannot be mistaken.
The most frequent mistake is not in sticking a mask on but in taking it off. Peel it off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch – the longer a mask stays on a model, the greater the risk that the edge of the finish tears away with it. Pull the mask slowly, at a sharp angle back over itself, not straight up. In the large 1:32 scale it pays to have pointed tweezers and a new scalpel at hand for lifting a corner. Any remaining traces of adhesive can be picked up with a piece of the same mask – solvents could damage fresh paint.
This is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
