A set of vinyl masks for the cockpit of the early Thunderbolt with the raised decking in 1:32 scale. It contains five national insignia stencils and a decal sheet.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47D from the early production batches had a tall dorsal fairing behind the pilot that blended smoothly into the fin. It owes the nickname razorback to that fairing. The view to the rear was wretched and pilots' complaints led to the later batches receiving a cut-down decking and a bubble canopy. The glazing of the older form consists of a windscreen with a flat armored pane and a densely framed hood that slid back along guide rails on the sides of the fairing.
The number of insignia stencils is above average on this item. Five pieces cover the white stars in a rectangular field on both wings and on both sides of the fuselage, that is the full set of markings that the machines of the Eighth Air Force wore over Europe. Beside them a decal sheet lies in the box, so the builder is not tied to spraying and can combine the two.
The remaining stencils are aimed at the inner face of the canopy. Once sprayed, they create the impression of a frame that is visible through the glass from both viewpoints, which on a model this large decides the credibility of the cockpit more than most of the parts inside it. The film is applied to a clean, dry clear molding, it works with acrylic as well as solvent-based finishes and is removed with tweezers as soon as the coat has flashed off. The stencils are intended for a single use. It works well to lay the straight stretches of the bars down first and only then to shape the curves, because the film stretches slightly along its longer edge and starting from a straight section keeps the whole piece in place.
