A photo-etched set aimed at the interior of a model of the Panavia Tornado GR.4 combat aircraft in 1:32 from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The package does not contain a model of the aircraft but a fret of fine metal parts with which the plastic parts of the cockpit are replaced or supplemented. The etched parts are a few tenths of a millimeter thick, which matches the real thickness of sheet-metal panels, consoles and harness straps more faithfully than injection-molded plastic. In 1:32 the cockpit is very clearly visible, so detailing the interior makes a marked difference.
The Panavia Tornado GR.4 was the British strike variant of the two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, created in international collaboration. The GR.4 represented an upgrade standard of the earlier GR.1 form, aimed at the avionics, the navigation and targeting systems and the integration of new armament. The cockpit is a two-seater, with the pilot and the systems operator in tandem, which means two instrument panels and two sets of side consoles to detail.
Separate the etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface rather than with nippers, so that they are not bent. Make the folds in a bending tool or between two razor blades, always along the scored line. Color-printed parts are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue or with thin glue for photo-etched parts, applied in a minimal amount so that the printing is not damaged. The plastic originals have to be sanded away completely before fitting, otherwise the new layer increases the overall thickness of the part and the cockpit will not close. Dry-fit as you go; with an interior, mistakes can no longer be corrected once the fuselage is closed.
The accessory is supplied unassembled. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
