A set of seat belts for a model of the Pfalz D.XII aircraft in 1:32 scale from the brand HGW. It is not a kit but a cockpit accessory: laser cut belts of printed microfabric completed with photo-etched metal buckles. The Pfalz D.XII was a single-seat fighter biplane from the end of the First World War, on which the open cockpit with the seat is well visible, so the detail of the belts really counts.
A photo-etched metal belt is flat and its bends look hard. Microfabric has a texture and a thickness of its own, so once it is hung into the cockpit it forms soft waves by itself and behaves like real cloth. The belts stay workable: they can be left fastened or thrown loosely over the edge of the seat. The material is treated against moisture and stands up to the common modeling products, including filters for darkening the shade. The photo-etched buckles then give the joints the metallic sheen they need.
For builders of models in a large scale with an open cockpit, where the seat and its equipment are well visible. Working with the small photo-etched buckles calls for a steady hand and good lighting, but it is among the most striking improvements an interior can get.
The set holds only the seat belts. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
