About product

1:32 RE.8 Harry Tate – masking set (HGW)

This is a set of self-adhesive masks, not a stand-alone model. The HGW masks are precisely cut from fine Japanese paper tape (kabuki) and serve to mask the glazed areas when spraying the RE.8 Harry Tate in 1:32 scale. They let you spray the canopy framing and the other glazed areas sharply and without paint creeping under the edge. The masks are designed to the shape of the corresponding kit in this scale and are not intended for the model itself.

The real subject

The Royal Aircraft Factory RE.8, nicknamed Harry Tate among the crews, was a British two-seat reconnaissance and artillery spotting aircraft of the First World War. For all its wide use it had a reputation for being hard to handle, yet it made up a large part of British observation aviation on the Western Front.

Use and tips

Carefully lift the pieces off the sheet, transfer them onto cleaned and degreased glazing and press the edges down thoroughly so that paint cannot creep underneath. The masks follow the framing of the canopy, so the slow cutting of tape is unnecessary. For thin areas use thin coats of paint and lift the mask off while the sprayed finish has only just dried. The leftover parts of the sheet can be used to cover the surrounding areas against overspray.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the RE.8 Harry Tate in 1:32 scale
  • Those who want clean, sharp canopy framing without cutting tape by hand
  • Beginners as well as the advanced, who save time masking the glazing
  • Collectors who care about precisely finished glazed areas

This is an accessory for masking; the kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.

No. It is a set of self-adhesive masks for the glazed areas of the RE.8 Harry Tate, not a model kit.

From fine Japanese paper tape (kabuki), which holds well, follows the shape and lifts off easily after spraying with no adhesive residue.

For the RE.8 Harry Tate in 1:32 scale. They are designed to the shape of the corresponding kit in this scale.

Yes. The masks are pre-cut for the canopy framing, so the slow hand cutting of tape and the risk of inaccuracy are gone.
