A decal sheet in 1:32 scale intended for models of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter. According to the name it covers the LF Mk Vb, Mk VIII and Mk IXe variants. It is an accessory, not a model: the package holds printed decal film, which is applied to a finished kit that has been painted and clear coated. The large 1:32 scale means large and legible motifs, on which even small lettering and the shading of the printing stand out.
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-engine fighter with a characteristic elliptical wing and a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. The LF Mk Vb variant was tuned for low altitudes, the Mk VIII was a structurally reworked airframe with a two-stage supercharged engine, and the Mk IXe differs in its armament arranged according to the e-type wing. Individual machines differed in camouflage, unit codes and the personal markings of their crews, and it is exactly these details that make decals the most visible part of a model.
Always apply a decal onto a glossy surface: a flat coat has a microscopically broken-up structure under which air is trapped, and a silvery edge appears around the motif. Trim the film as closely as possible to the printing, so that the transition is invisible. Soak it in lukewarm water only until the motif releases from the backing, and move it with a brush, not with your fingers. With large motifs in 1:32 work in sections and squeeze the water out from under the decal with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges. On areas with rivets and panel lines use decal softener and let the decal dry without touching it, even if it wrinkles. At the end, clear coat everything, so that the edges of the film disappear under a uniform surface.
The package contains decals. The kit, paints, clear coat and decal softener are not part of it.
