The set contains the photo-etched seat harness of the pilot's seat for the 1:32 Douglas A-26B Invader model, made by the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The STEEL line differs from the other photo-etched sets in both material and finish: the parts are etched from steel rather than brass and come printed in color by the manufacturer, hardware included. Steel is more malleable and keeps its shape once bent, so a strap can be convincingly draped over the seat cushion or left hanging loose. Unlike interior sets this is a narrowly focused accessory that solves a single but very visible detail of the cockpit.
The harness is a small thing in a cockpit, yet it gives the scale away. In reality it is a set of fabric straps with metal hardware and a quick-release buckle; on a model it is solved either with photo-etched parts or with fabric tape. The cockpit of the A-26B is glazed enough for the belts to be clearly visible in 1:32 scale once the model is finished, especially if you leave the canopy open.
Pre-painted steel etch does not need to be painted, which saves work — so handle it all the more carefully to keep the print from rubbing off. Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and level the tab with a small file, but never touch a printed surface with abrasive paper. Shape the strap dry first, with tweezers and a rod: steel keeps the bend without annealing. Only then glue it, using the smallest amount of thin super glue applied with a pin; excess turns white and is hard to repair on a printed part. If the tone of the print does not match your idea, go over the strap alone with a thin coat of acrylic and leave the hardware as it is. A light dark wash in the folds and a gentle polish of the hardware edges work well at the end.
