A sheet of markings for Spitfire Mk.IX aircraft flown by fighter aces, in 1:32 scale. Intended for models of this type.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick answer to the German Fw 190, which was getting away from contemporary British fighters at altitude. A Merlin V12 engine with a two-stage supercharger was built into the airframe of the older version, and the aircraft thereby won back its performance at high altitude. The Mk.IX form became one of the most numerous of all the versions of the Spitfire and served with Allied units until the end of the war. It was on exactly these machines that a number of well-known fighter aces flew.
This is a sheet of markings in 1:32 scale, devoted to machines flown by fighter aces. Which particular aircraft the sheet offers and how the markings are positioned is stated by the enclosed instructions. The sheet is cut for models of the Spitfire Mk.IX in 1:32 scale; the model itself is not part of it.
Sheets of this kind are usually applied by the wet method: cut the item out together with its carrier film, dip it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest until the film can be slid off. The base should be smooth and gloss, otherwise silvering will appear under the decal. A softener helps the decal settle into the panel lines, and once dry the model is varnished over. Before you dip the sheet, though, check in the instructions whether it is not a self-adhesive version. A self-adhesive film that has been dipped is ruined, whereas a wet decal that has not been dipped can be dipped at any time later.
The model, the paints, the varnish and the softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
