A set of figures in 1:32 scale from the brand Aerobonus, which is the figure and diorama line of the manufacturer Aires. According to the name it contains two figures of a United States Air Force crew, a pilot and an operator, supplemented with ejection seats for the piston-engined T-28D Trojan in the form used during the war in Vietnam. This is not a model of an airplane but resin accessories with which the cockpit of a finished model is filled or an airfield scene brought to life.

What the figures bring to a model

An empty cockpit in a large scale looks unnatural on a finished model and draws attention to what is missing in it. A crew sets the scale legibly at once: from a figure the viewer recognizes the real size of the machine and the cockpit makes sense. In 1:32 scale the folds of the flight suit, the straps of the harness and the shape of the helmet are already apparent on the figures, so it pays to give time to painting the face and the gear. The seats from the set can also be used on their own if it is mainly the interior you are interested in.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin castings first in lukewarm soapy water; the remains of the mold release agent would otherwise repel the paint. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, sand the mold seams over wet and check against the light whether any traces of the mold are left. Glue the figures with super glue, and first try seating them in the cockpit dry, because there is a different amount of space in every kit. Paint in layers: a base, then shading with a thinned darker color in the folds and finally a dry brush on the edges. The face is done last and at leisure; in this scale the eyes can be suggested with a very fine tip.
