A resin figure of a German non-commissioned officer with an MP40 submachine gun, dated to 1944, in 1:35 scale from Rado Miniatures. The name refers to the period warning about Allied fighter-bombers, called Jagdbomber in German and shortened to Jabo; the stance of the figure follows that subject. The casting is supplied unpainted and unassembled.
It is an accessory for equipment or for a terrain base, not a model in its own right. It is figures like this that turn a display case into a scene: the stance and the gesture decide what is happening in it, and the viewer fills the rest in. The 9 mm MP40 submachine gun is a weapon typical of the period, and in 1:35 scale it is a small part that deserves attention of its own in painting.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the joints wet with respiratory protection. Glue with super glue and lay a primer under the assembled figure. On the weapon, avoid silver paint; steel is better matched by a very dark graphite tone, or simply by lightly polishing the edges with a graphite pencil. Leather straps take a deeper wash than cloth, so that the difference of materials is readable. Paint the face first, while the figure is still loose and easy to reach, and leave the eyes suggested rather than sharply drawn. A final matte varnish evens out the sheen of the whole figure.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
