The real subject

USS Texas is among the oldest surviving American battleships. She entered service before the First World War, spent the second as a fire support vessel, and her guns supported the Normandy landings as well as the fighting in the Pacific. Today she serves as a museum ship, so she is among the few subjects a modeler can see with his own eyes.

What the set is for

The set replaces the deck of a model with a wooden part that has its own grain of growth rings and gaps. Unlike a sprayed deck the structure cannot be mistaken for anything else, and it is precisely on a small model in 1:700 scale that wood makes the greatest difference. How to work with it

• First lay the part on dry and check how it sits on the outlines of the deck.
• Carefully sand away any detail protruding from the plastic deck that would be in the part's way.
• The base has to be clean, dry and degreased, otherwise the joint will not hold.
• The gluing procedure and the recommended glue are given in the manufacturer's instructions; keep to them.
• Do not apply surplus paint to the edges; the wood should stay visible.
• Protect the finished model from damp, as a wooden part moves in damp.
