This supplementary resin set in 1:35 scale brings the additional armor referred to in the original as the 45 mm one, intended for models of the Israeli Shot Kal tank. It is not a vehicle kit but a set of parts fitted to a hull or turret that has already been built. Resin suits such a purpose, because it allows a plate to be cast at a realistic thickness with a crisp edge, whereas a plastic part tends to be needlessly bulky, or on the contrary flat, because of the mold technology.
The Shot Kal is the Israeli development version of the Centurion tank with a reworked powerplant and further modifications that extended the machine's service by decades. Add-on armor is one of the characteristic features of the later periods: additional plates were fitted to exposed areas and they markedly change the silhouette of the vehicle. For a modeler that means the presence or absence of these plates places a model in a particular period of service.
Wash the castings, cut the casting blocks off and level the mating surfaces on abrasive paper laid on a flat base. On flat plates it shows most when a part does not seat over its whole area, so it is worth testing the fit dry and sanding it back slightly if necessary. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue and start from one corner, so that the plate can be fine-tuned before the glue sets. After spraying the primer, check against the light whether a gap has appeared anywhere. A chipped plate edge and dust on the lower part of the vehicle will give the result depth.
The supplementary set is supplied unpainted and without the basic kit. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
