An injection-molded plastic kit of the French light tank AMX-13 fitted with the turret of the American light tank M24 Chaffee, in 1:35 scale from Takom. The model represents an unconventional conversion from the period of the Algerian War. The box holds photo-etched parts, clear parts and individual track links; the main gun can be elevated and the hatches can be fitted open or closed. It carries decals for several options. Check the actual number of parts against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The AMX-13 was a French postwar light tank of the early 1950s, typified by its compact dimensions and low weight. In this configuration it carries, instead of its usual oscillating turret, the turret of the American light tank M24 Chaffee with a 75 mm gun. France used this combination among other places during the Algerian War of 1954 to 1962, when it joined the reliable AMX-13 chassis with available Chaffee turrets. The result was an agile light tank suited to reconnaissance and support in demanding terrain.
Assemble and paint the running gear and the individual tracks before finishing the hull. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, attach the clear parts with adhesive for glazing and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. French machines in Algeria usually wore uniform green or sand shades; after the base coat and the clear coat under the decals, pick out the detail with a wash and add bold dust and mud with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
