An armament set for a model of the Soviet KV-5 super-heavy tank in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Aber — a metal replacement for the plastic barrels, with drilled muzzles.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal set from the Polish maker Aber that replaces the plastic armament of a model of the Soviet KV-5 super-heavy tank, carried in period documentation under the project designation Object 225. The turned parts have drilled muzzles and a perfectly round profile with no parting seam, so on a model they look a class better than molded plastic. It is not a tank model but an upgrade accessory for a kit.
The KV-5 was a 1941 super-heavy tank project that stayed on paper: work was stopped because of the war situation before a prototype was built. The design called for exceptionally heavy armor, a very high weight, a large-caliber gun in the turret and several machine guns, one of which was to sit in a separate commander's cupola. Models of this type therefore always go back to period drawings and later reconstructions rather than to a surviving machine; in collections they count among the so-called paper projects, which have a following of their own among modelers.
Degrease the metal parts with alcohol before work. Cut the original plastic barrels off with a saw and sand the surface so that the new barrel seats; always try the fit dry first and, if necessary, open the hole carefully with a round file. They are bonded with super glue, and joints under stress can be soldered with tin. Apply a primer made for metal before painting, otherwise the surface rubs through when handled. Darken the inside of the muzzle and dirty the area around it sparingly with soot. Prepare the small parts over a tray with a raised rim.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted and without the vehicle model.
