A detailing set, not a tank kit. It replaces the plastic armament with faithful metal parts: the main 100 mm D-10T gun barrel and three barrels for 7.62 mm SGMT machine guns. Aber is a Polish maker specializing in turned barrels and photo-etched accessories; turned metal holds a perfectly round section and stays straight, which never quite comes off with a split plastic barrel.
T-54-1 is the designation of the first production series of the T-54 tank, which followed on from the wartime T-44 and became the starting point for the whole and most widespread family of postwar medium tanks. Its characteristic feature was the 100 mm D-10T gun, that is, the tank version of the proven naval and anti-tank gun, together with 7.62 mm SGMT machine guns, one coaxial with the gun and the others mounted outside the turret. It was precisely the early series that differed from the later production T-54s in the shape of the turret and in details of the armament, so faithful barrels are an important part of getting the look of the model right.
Cut the plastic barrel off with a saw at right angles to the axis and true the face, so that the metal part seats without tilting. Glue metal with cyanoacrylate, and use the gel version on larger joints. Degrease the parts before painting and use a primer for metal. Darken the muzzle at the end with a dark wash or pigment, and never plug it with glue. To be safe, check the position of the barrel from the front and from above before the glue sets, so that it is not out of line.
A detailing set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
