The real subject

The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German half-track armored personnel carrier of the Second World War; the 251/1 version carried infantry. The Ausf. D is the last and most simply built form, recognizable by its straight sides, beveled rear and bins recessed into the sides of the superstructure. Even within this variant, though, production kept changing, so surviving period vehicles differ from one another in details of the armor.

What the set contains

Photo-etched metal parts to complete the plastic kit of this vehicle. By its designation this is the eighth part of the range, that is, an add-on set following on from the basic set, focused on the upper armor in its late form. The standard form of the same assembly is covered in the range by a separate set numbered five, so check before you buy which variant of the vehicle you are building. Tips for working with photo-etched parts

• First compare the photo-etched part with the plastic one and mark what will have to be cut away.
• Cut the parts away with a sharp blade on a hard surface, do not break them out of the sheet.
• Bend longer faces in a bending tool all at once; done in stages the edge comes out wavy.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue dosed from the tip of a pin.
• Degrease the parts before painting and lay down a coat of primer.

The set is for builders who want to build the model in its late form and who are not satisfied with the thickness of armor surfaces that injected plastic allows. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
