Aber 1:35 – a turned barrel for the 8 mm Hotchkiss Mle 1914 machine gun for models of the French First World War tanks Renault FT and Saint-Chamond.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal detail set, not a kit. It holds a turned barrel for the 8 mm Hotchkiss model 1914 heavy machine gun of the kind used on French tanks of the First World War. The metal part replaces the plastic barrel and brings a more accurate profile of the cooling rings and a drilled muzzle, which on small plastic parts is practically unattainable. It is made by the Polish company Aber, long focused on turned barrels and photo-etched detail for military models.
The 8 mm Hotchkiss model 1914 machine gun was the standard French heavy automatic weapon of the First World War. It was marked out by air cooling with prominent rings on the barrel and by feeding from rigid strips. Besides the ground forces it found its way into the first French tanks – the light Renault FT carried it in the machine gun version in a rotating turret, while on the heavy Saint-Chamond it backed the main gun as a defensive weapon against infantry. The gun spread to other armies as well and served in modified forms long after the war ended.
It is best to glue the small metal part on at the end of the build, when there is no risk of snapping it off. Degrease it with alcohol beforehand and use cyanoacrylate glue. Prime the metal, or the paint will soon come off the slender barrel. The weapon tends to be darker than the body around it – use a dark steel paint with a slight sheen and darken the muzzle with a pigment. Pick out the cooling rings with a dark wash.
This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
