About product

Boot Prints American WWII Boots 1:35 (MIG productions)

An aid for making terrain in 1:35 scale from MIG productions. You will get no figure and no vehicle part in it - its only job is to press into the terrain the prints of the soles of American boots used in the Second World War. A boot print is a detail nobody notices until it is missing: the base of a diorama with an untouched surface always looks as though nobody has ever walked across it. A few well placed prints bring a scene to life at once and show which way the figures moved.

Use

  • let the terrain compound firm up to the state where it can still be shaped but already holds its form - in compound that is too wet the print spreads, and in dry compound you cannot get in
  • moisten the contact surface lightly or rub it with a release agent, otherwise the compound will cling and the print will tear as it is lifted
  • press perpendicular and evenly; tilted pressure makes the print deeper on one side, which only suits places where a figure was pushing off
  • build the prints up into a continuous walk - irregular spacing, slightly turned feet and the occasional incomplete print look more convincing than a regular row
  • bring the dried prints out with a dark wash in the recesses and a lighter pigment around the edges; only that makes a print really stand out

Who it is for

Intended for builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale who want terrain that carries the traces of movement. A less experienced modeler will manage it too - the whole job is a matter of timing, of when the compound is just firm enough. It pays to make a few test prints on an offcut of compound first.

The form of the aid, the number of prints in the set and its dimensions are given on the packaging. Terrain compound, pigments and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is an aid for making terrain - it serves only to create the prints of soles in modeling compound.

In any shapeable terrain compound in the state where it can still be shaped but holds its form. No particular brand is needed; it works by consistency, not by manufacturer.

Moisten the contact surface lightly before each print or rub it with a release agent. Without that the compound sticks and the print tears as it is lifted.

A dry print in single-colored terrain almost disappears. Bring the recesses out with a dark wash and the edges with a light pigment; the contrast pulls the print out.
