What the set offers

A set of small clock faces and dials in 1:35 scale. These are elements that get lost on a model on their own, but in a scene they do a great deal of work: a wall clock in a workshop, a clock face at a railway station, pressure gauges on a wall, gauges on a vehicle's instrument panel. It is exactly such little things that separate a scene which feels inhabited from a scene that remains a mere assembly of models.

Where it fits

Scale 1:35 is the most common scale for military models and building dioramas, so the set will suit a vehicle interior, a workshop, a garage and the fittings of a building. It pays to place the elements sparingly and where the viewer's eye falls first; crowded details have the opposite effect to the one intended. They also serve well where the interior is visible only through an open hatch or a window, because even a fleeting glimpse inside adds depth to a scene.

Work tips

The elements are small, so tweezers, a sharp blade and a dry run before fixing all prove their worth. Plan the placement out on the scene first and only then fix the elements, because once the glue has dried they cannot be moved. The particular method of fixing depends on the make-up of the set and on the instructions the manufacturer supplies with it. A light dirtying with pigment or a thin glaze around an element helps to unify it, so that a fresh detail does not stand out from an otherwise aged scene.
