An accessory for painting, not a kit. The set holds pre-cut masks for the model of the French AUF1 self-propelled howitzer of 155 mm caliber in 1:35 scale. Its purpose is that the areas meant to stay clear or in a different shade come out of painting sharply bounded and with no paint bled under the edge. The masks are cut for the Meng kit.
The AUF1 is a self-propelled howitzer with a fully rotating enclosed turret on a tracked chassis derived from the AMX-30 tank. The turret is boxy and made of plate, so it carries no large glazed areas, but there is a whole series of small things on it that are harder to mask than a car window: the driver's and commander's vision ports, the optics, the headlights on the hull and the transparent covers. They sit recessed between projecting details where tape breaks up and does not lie down well; a piece cut to shape goes on at the first attempt.
Assemble the model completely first and degrease it, then stick the masks on and press them down in the corners as well. Primer follows, then the base shade, and only after that the weathering. Watch the order with pigments and washes: leave the mask in place through those as well, so that dust and wash cannot get onto the optics. Take it off only at the very end, once the surface has been sealed, and peel it slowly, because dried varnish grips the edge and tearing it off quickly will lift it along with the base coat.
The package holds masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
